The WatchGuard Firebox M500 is a security appliance engineered for mid-sized and distributed enterprises facing growth in bandwidth rates, encrypted traffic, and connection speeds. It provides 8 network interfaces, with interfaces 0 through 5 supporting 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet and additional interfaces supporting SFP transceivers over a SerDes connection. The appliance delivers up to 8 Gbps of firewall throughput and maintains up to 1.7 Gbps of UTM throughput even with optional security services like intrusion prevention and application control turned on. Multiple VPN options, including IPSec, SSL, and L2TP, support secure remote access for both Android and Apple iOS devices. The Firebox M500 supports both active/active and active/passive high availability configurations to maintain network uptime, and includes 2 USB ports plus a dedicated RJ45 serial console port for command line access. Management is available through WatchGuard System Manager, the command line interface, or a web-based UI accessible from anywhere. The appliance runs WatchGuard's Fireware XTM operating system and draws up to 75W, generating up to 256 BTU/hr of heat.
