The Cisco QSFP-40/100-SRBD is a dual rate BiDi transceiver module that operates at either 40 or 100 Gigabit Ethernet, letting one part number cover both speed tiers. It uses a duplex LC connector over multimode fiber, sending and receiving signals on the same two strands instead of the four strands standard optics require. This design lets customers reuse existing 10 Gigabit duplex multimode fiber infrastructure when migrating to 40G or 100G speeds. In 40 Gigabit mode, the module reaches 100 meters on OM3 fiber or 150 meters on OM4 fiber. In 100 Gigabit mode, reach drops to 70 meters on OM3 fiber or 100 meters on OM4 fiber. The transceiver operates across a wavelength range of 832 to 918 nanometers using two optical channels. Power consumption stays low at 3.5W, keeping thermal load manageable in dense line card and switch deployments. Built in digital optical monitoring lets administrators track real time transceiver health and performance. The compact QSFP form factor fits data center, high performance computing, enterprise core and distribution layer, and service provider deployments.
