The Cisco A99-RP3-SE is the Route Processor 3 for Service Edge deployments in the Cisco ASR 9900 Series, designed as the next-generation system processor for the ASR 9912 and ASR 9922 chassis supporting high-density 100GbE and 400GbE line cards. The SE variant provides 32GB DRAM for service provider edge, broadband aggregation, mobile transport, and data center interconnect workloads requiring expanded routing table and feature capacity over the Packet Transport (TR) variant. The RP3 controls up to seven ASR 9900 Switch Fabric Cards for scalability and high availability, delivering a multistage low-latency nonblocking fabric architecture with service intelligence and traffic prioritization. Management interfaces include two 100/1000 RJ-45 management ports, one auxiliary port, one console port, and one USB 2.0 Type-A port. Network timing support includes GPS via ToD, 10-MHz and 1-PPS interfaces, BITS, and IEEE 1588-2008 PTP through a dedicated optical port. Running Cisco IOS XR with true software process modularity, the RP3 supports SMU-based bug fixing, FPD upgrades during live operation, NSR, ISSU, and redundant RP1 plus RP2 hot-standby failover. Backward compatibility covers ASR 9000 Series third and fourth generation line cards.
