Two MIC slots hold the interface modules that supply the ports, up to 96 10GbE, 24 40GbE or 16 100GbE ports at line rate. On the 12-port MIC-MRATE, every port starts out as 10GbE and can be switched to 40GbE, while eight of the twelve can run at 100GbE. The MIC-MACSEC-MRATE adds MACsec encryption at 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE speeds using GCM-AES-128 or GCM-AES-256 ciphers. The card works with both the SFB and SFB2 switch fabric boards, although the original SFB limits it to 800 Gbps. Junos Trio chipsets drive forwarding, with transit MTUs up to 16,000 bytes, Hyper Mode for faster packet processing and inline active flow monitoring.
