Cisco offers the RSP5 as service-edge-optimized and packet-transport-optimized models, and this one is the packet-transport-optimized model. Both versions work with service-optimized and transport-optimized line cards, and different line cards can be mixed in the same chassis. It has an eight-core 1.9 GHz processor and two 128 GB solid-state drives that can store core dumps. The card works in the ASR 9904, 9006, 9010, 9906 and 9910 chassis, and it can be paired with a second RSP5 of the same kind for 1+1 redundancy. Each RSP5 controls two of the up to seven switch fabrics, with the other five on dedicated fabric cards. Two independent clock source connections, GPS inputs and IEEE 1588 support provide network timing.
